USB Type-C to HDMI Adapter

We tested many USB Type-C to HDMI adapters in the market and found out that there is still no standard on USB Type-C adapters. Most of them do not support higher than 720P displays including NexDock’s 1366×768 display resolution.

Below you can find the USB Type-C to HDMI adapters that we recommend to use with NexDock.

Quick Setup Guide

Use the mini-HDMI to HDMI cable and USB Type-C to HDMI adapter to connect your Windows10 smartphone to NexDock and make sure your device ON. Press and hold power button on NexDock. Once Continuum feature is activated on NexDock “Caps Lock” led will start blinking showing that bluetooth keyboard & touchpad are in pairing mode. Go to Settings/Devices/Bluetooth on your smartphone and turn on bluetooth connection. Search for “NexDock Keyboard” and click on “Tap to pair”; pairing code is not required. Enjoy NexDock powered by your smartphone!

Troubleshooting

  • NexDock display resolution is 1366×768 and most of the USB Type-C to HDMI adapters do not support higher than 720P resolution. NexDock and Lumia 950 smartphone have been tested with USB Type-C to HDMI adapters from HP, Dell, Insignia (Best Buy) & Google and we recommend to use one these adapters. To confirm there are no issues with NexDock, please test the display with Windows10 laptop that supports 1366×768 resolution using NexDock as secondary monitor.

  • In case you cannot connect to “NexDock Keyboard” delete it from paired connections on your device and try again. NexDock will always try to connect the last paired device so if you are using NexDock with multiple devices make sure the bluetooth connection is turned off on the device that you are NOT using and try again. You can also disconnect paired bluetooth connection from NexDock pressing first Function+Q (to unlock) and then Function+BT (to unpair) on the keyboard.
  • If there is lag on bluetooth connection press “Tap to control NexDock” tab on your smartphone. Once your smartphone starts working on “Touchpad” mode try the touchpad on your phone and then on NexDock to resolve the issue. This is a known bug in Windows10 smartphone OS and we informed Microsoft about the issue.

  • This is a known bug in Windows 10 smartphone OS and we informed Microsoft about the issue and we are hoping that they will resolve it in coming updates.

On the other hand after closing this error message we did not experience any problems which would affect the use of NexDock.

  • Battery level is recognized only when NexDock is connected to a device via bluetooth so if you do not have any device connected via bluetooth you might experience flickering of display due to low battery.

  • This is a known issue that Qualcomm SoC devices (such as the Lumia 950) are unable to output audio over HDMI at this resolution of 1366×768. However the speakers of Lumia 950 is better than NexDock’s speakers.

  • In case NexDock does not turn off for any reason you can force shutdown by pressing and holding power button for 10-15 seconds.
  • This version of NexDock does not come with USB Type-C port so it does not have capability to charge your smartphone. Future versions of NexDock will support USB Type-C port.
